oh, so ghidorah just took over it then.
@sonictiger, how much time do you have on your hands to watch all of those movies?
I don’t think it’s correct to classify certain films as more important than others
SarcasticGoji,
The shelves and shelves and shelves of unsold merchandise and toys that point the Trendmasters toy company out of business...
Die-hard Spino Fan,
No. I mean the cliches of bad 1990s blockbusters were funneled into it without remorse.
Ok, because I'm probably going to watch some of the more important Goji films.
What I'm going to watch:
Godzilla (1954)
Mothra vs Godzilla
Rodan
Ghidorah
Destroy All Monsters
Godzilla vs Megalon
Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla
Godzilla (1984)
Godzilla Vs. Biollante
Godzilla vs Destroyah
Godzilla (1998)
Godzilla 2000
Godzilla x Mecha G
Godzilla: Final Wars
Shin Godzilla
Rewatch: King Kong Vs. Godzilla (1962), Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of The Monsters, and Godzilla Vs. Kong
MG's AI was connected to and powered by Ghidorah's brain, however it only become Ghidorah when the hollow Earth energy revived the brain causing it to possess MG. Before that it was technically it's own titan that just happed to be made from the remains other titans, similar to Frankenstein's monster. That's why I view it as being something separate to Ghidorah.
Well, maybe I read it wrong.
The taco bell campaign.
...but it's a train wreck stock piled on sewage to blueprint everything wrong with 1990s blockbuster filmmaking. Let's just say there's a reason marketing campaigns have not been as over the top since this thing.
Ok, by saying, “everything wrong with 1990s blockbuster filmmaking,” do you mean that the original Jurassic park is bad?
sonictiger,
I'm an advocate for watching everything to make your own decision. So watch it.
...but it's a train wreck stock piled on sewage to blueprint everything wrong with 1990s blockbuster filmmaking. Let's just say there's a reason marketing campaigns have not been as over the top since this thing. There's also a reason Maria Pitillo didn't have a career after this movie...
@sonictiger. Many people don’t like 1998 but I do and I don’t think you should skip it.
Is it best to skip the 1998 one btw?
It's just that I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time...
I cringed at the word garbage but ok
I don't really like Godzilla (2014), the 2nd act dragged. The first 40 minutes were interesting enough but I got really bored at the hour mark and went to the third act. It's a slog of a kaiju movie, while I do appreciate it's realism and darker tone.
KaijuBuildz,
More of a retroactive thing.
The 1998 movie is part of its own continuity.
GMK just includes the 1998 garbage in its own continuity, due to the joke made at the beginning of the film.
So they're still two continuities since one doesn't include GMK.
Also, don’t forget that TECHNICALLY GMK is part of the TriStar universe.
Oh really?
I haven’t seen Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidora
@sonictiger, you don’t like Godzilla 2014?
To kind of make a conclusion (or for myself at least), there no good way to fight the people who Mock. Like Chris said at the beginning of this discussion, it comes down to people being immature which hopefully they will grow out of, but if not I think the best way to deal with that is to ignore it. The worst attention you can give those people is no attention. But at the end of the day, who cares.
In all honesty, I'm just satisfied that the MonsterVerse managed to execute their general idea well...I think it's not as good as the MCU but it's still pretty great since I like most of the MonsterVerse's movies (with the sole exception of Godzilla 2014).
I like the (tiny) tristar Godzilla (not really Godzilla) 1998 movie and the follow up series, (I still need to watch it)
Mosterverse is tied with the tristar one.
Showa, Showa and Showa. But not because of any connective tissue that makes up the concept of a "continuity". Rather the movies are just the best.
In terms of tight continuity that makes the best use of the concept, including great, stand alone movies, the Godzilla series falls pretty short. The Gamera Trilogy on the other hand is probably the best example of a kaiju continuity utilized with top tier quality.
gman,
I was trying to parody the g-fans who seem to worship the heiei franchise. im fine with people making fun of the godzilla franchise, heck, I do it all the time! I was trying to make that comment as outlandish as possible so people would now its a joke. i was NOT being serios and its not like i own any ak-47s in the firsst place.
The Showa era timeline! It’s one of the first cinematic universes, what more to say
As long as Godzilla is there, I'll like it
I guess the moral here is to stay true to yourself. Don't let other Heisei mockers get in the way and ruin your taste. But don't ruin their taste either. We all have different preferences and that's ok, and that's all that matters.
M O N S T E R V E R S E
It's not even close....

I will send u a picture of a mantis bat.
monsterzero9,
Hell I've been making fun of the Heisei series since 1997, that's not too difficult.
The overall point is--Who cares?
Stop giving people who you disagree with or just flat out wrong the attention. This entire thread exists as a tribute to the kind of rise they want to get out of people. Ignore them.
everyone here's talking about important fandom stuff and i'm just sittin here like
'OK SO IMAGINE A PRAYING MANTIS...BUT A BAT. MANTIS BAT.'
but for real, yeah i try to stay away from the 'fake fan/true fan' arguments in really any fandom. although, i do agree they should at least try to watch some older movies. if they don't like them as much so be it.
Unless they have ak-47's. Have it prepared in case lol.
For all you know, the people that are making fun of the heisei series could be like 4 year old kids who just don't find the man in suit amusing.
