The second act isn’t a “boring slog” as you put it. It was filled with set up and decent muto action. Fans focused on good storytelling. As for the characters, they are based on preference. G14’ is more about ordinary people thrown into this circumstance and doing amazing things.
The nest two films fall into having characters who already have advantages doing amazing things because we expect them to. (I like KOTM and GvK, but G14 is special to me.)
I really like Godzilla's design.
Legendary Goji owes its feature to older japanese gojis. The hunched posture is not new. for example
king ghidorahs feet kind of remind me of gmk ghidorah.
The King Ghidorah design looks like a mix of the MonsterVerse King Ghidorah and Cretaceous Ghidorah from Rebirth of Mothra III.
I find it funny how people complain about how Godzilla doesn't have enough screen time in 2014, yet they're completely fine with older movies that barely show the creatures.
Jaws
Runtime: 2 hours, 10 minutes
Shark screen time: Around 4 minutes
Alien
Runtime: 1 hour, 57 minutes
Xenomorph screen time: 5 minutes, 13 seconds
(All 3 Forms)
Cloverfield
Runtime: 1 hour, 30 minutes
Clover screen time: 2 minutes, 38 seconds
Parasite screen time: 1 minute, 21 seconds
The Blob (1958)
Runtime: 1 hour, 26 minutes
Blob screen time: Around 1 minute, 26 seconds
And yet, people have a problem with Godzilla 2014's monster screen time.
Runtime: 2 hours, 3 minutes
Godzilla screen time: 10 minutes, 15 seconds
MUTO screen time: Around 12 minutes, 10 seconds
(I also really like this ghidorah design).
at the begining of the trailer king ghidorah is moving around at the speed of sound!
I like Ghidorah's weird beak mouth
I hate the human characters in G'14, the 2nd act was a boring slog, and the grey filter is so dang annoying...
I don't like the designs but maybe because I'm staying entirely devoted to the USA
But for some reason I think Godzilla Earth's design is awesome...
I've taken some screenshots:

Loving Godzilla's new design, not sure if I like the revised Ghidorah though...
great minds think alike
I just made a topic about this wth
Sweet! Again, I really like the designs of the characters.
Sarcastic is right (in my opinion.)
SarcasticGoji,
I think it's much easier--Especially with the massive quality difference between each film.
godzilla had roughly 10 minutes of screen time in G14’ this may seem bad on the surface, but take into account that in a new hope, Vader only had 10-15 minutes. Both of these movies used great execution for each of their respective characters. I will say again, the little screen time is not a bad thing.
I'm more than glad that Target didn't muck up this collection with a frankly disappointing movie in my opinion.
That collection should stay the way it is, but on DVD.
it’s a little hard when the selection is small.
I'm sure one will be announced soon!
No news on a Steelbook version yet? I wanna add GvK steelbook edition to my ever increasing steelbook collection. Recently got the original GvK steelbook which looked so nice.
I love the art that they used for the blu-ray cover.
A week after my birthday! Thanks for the commentary Adam Wingard! You are the messiah brother! Great job buddy! Really upset me when we got no commentary in 2014. Godzilla vs Kong is the greatest film ever!!! If you love Godzilla and Kong check out my new album Kaiju Draconis free for a limited time on soundcloud! https://m.soundcloud.com/odd17y/sets/dragon-lizard-lord-king-chaos
happy birthday ishiro, rip in peace.
1 week before my b-day. its gonna be a cool 4k birthday
Chris,
My immediate answer is, "no" but I don't want to cut anyone short. I mean let's face the facts, love his movies or hate them, Jun Fukuda did everything he could with the narrow resources/budgets given to him and his movies are some of the most widely seen of the franchise. He was an excellent director given a very short end of the stick in the 1970s; no time, no money, no resources and Toho expected him to make Golden Age-era caliber films. I can't imagine being in that kind of position. Regardless, his movies were widely exposed to North America, particularly Godzilla vs. Megalon on prime time. His films are very influential in how Godzilla is seen--For better or worse.
Other than that, Shusuke Kaneko is probably the closest "second coming" of Honda I can think of. Among the Gamera Trilogy, GMK and his Ultraman Max episodes, I think it's a crying shame he hasn't returned to the genre and someone should be fired for it.
It terms of my next favorite? Eiji Tsuburaya was just as influential for his special effects--Perhaps more. Whereas Honda directed 8 films, Tsuburaya plowed through many more with and without Godzilla as well as establishing his own film studio that brought the genre to television, via the Ultra series. Depending on the day, I'm more into Tsuburaya than Honda. But today is not that day.
Other honorable favorites:
Shinji Higuchi
Kiyotaka Taguchi
Sadamasa Arikawa
Teruyoshi Nakano
Akio Jissoji
Koichi Sakamoto
Kenji Suzuki
(The last of which isn't particularly prolific, I just liked his style and think he's underrated.)
Much respect to Honda and his legacy. He really pioneered the basis for this beloved franchise and many others. His films carry a different "weight" than others, no doubt.
Next to Honda, who would be your favorite Godzilla / Toku filmmaker, GMan? Are there any you consider came the closest to honoring Honda's work and the impact he had on the industry?
I didn’t mean that as a rude or bad comment, I just thought it was kind of sad.
How do you say happy birthday to someone who isn’t alive?
I don't get the vibe Gman was bashing the series at all with his comment, if anything what he said was true. Godzilla 2014 was, by most accounts the best film of the entire Monsterverse series. I agree with him, the sarcasm needs to be appreciated. I can't fathom why they wouldn't have included G14 for a multitude of reasons.
SasquaDash,
Nope. Just occasionally.
I meant was it really necessary to use this as an excuse to, once again, insult this series.
We get it, you don't like the MonsterVerse. But do you really need to bash it anytime it gets brought up...?
Alright I had to look back for this, having sworn I saw it somewhere, but there is a four film set of these movies coming out--At least in the UK. It's Region B and I can't find anything that says a Region A release is in the cards:
