Michelle JohnstonAlien: Covenant ForumHappy 4th anniversary Alien: Covenant!

Alien Covenant is a part of a conversation between two opposing dynamics:-

1) Ridley Scott's return to science fiction and the matters that interest him.

2) The A L I E N fanbase involved in its own internal construct of what it believes anything attached to the name should be about with a set of fixed parameters.

In Prometheus, Bladerunner and Raised By Wolves we see Ridley's preoccupations, a fascination with what is life, how much is constructed and to what extent is there a blurring of the lines or could be. How were we created (Engineered benign accident) and mankind's reaction to mortality (Weyland) and how religiosity enters the narrative.

In Alien Covenant we see an attempt to get inside the ALIEN construct and try and attach the monster to the creation riff which pleases no one.

Fans like to blame the messenger for not being invested enough or lacking belief in the monster.

The reality is whether Prom/BR49/RBW are any good the subject matter is far more interesting than recycling the monster.

That Ridley would have placed the monster on the edge of the follow up to AC is unsurprising we see the comment in RBW that the monsters are degraded humans just as in Prometheus the rule book was set up that the monster was a degrading of the original intent.

Put simply Ridley's natural constituency is not the ALIEN fan base. His view of AC is "I told you so" the fans view is "try harder." AC reminds of the dichotomy and gap between deliverer and recipient.

Edit: Nevermind. I see that's been answered.

@squshaDash, I agree.

@Chris, Ok!

The purpose of this topic was to see how much of the fan base like Spino more than T. rex and how much of the fan base like T. rex more than Spino.

It depends on where the battle is taking place.

The image of Spinosaurus has changed a lot since 2001, now believed to be a stubby-legged, paddle-tailed fish eater that was more adapted to an aquatic lifestyle (although considering how much its image has changed over the years and the controversies surrounding these new finds, I'm not 100% sure how accurate it is). While Tyrannosaurus was more adapted to hunting on land, with a stronger bite force for dealing with larger and stronger prey.

If Tyrannosaurus fought Spinosaurus in a large body of water, the Spino would possibly win, if the the T. rex fought the Spino on dry land the Rex would probably win.

I like that scene too, but it doesn’t seem like it defines godzilla for me. I guess I can’t say much about my scene either though, It’s just Godzilla getting out of the water

2000 easily. It looked unique, and in a good way.

So my universe is basically a modified MonsterVerse in which the Zilla species is an alien from another planet. It would be all of the events from Ghidora landing on earth, to Dagon’s death, to the death of Titanus Jinshin-Mushi, and many others, and how Zilla and how he impacted the MonsterVerse. I will also be doing my version of all the MonsterVerse movies. Zilla’s mother landed on earth during the Mid-Late Cretaceous after her species’s (Titanus Han-Kami) planet was destroyed by a rogue planet. She laid one large egg after asexuallly reproducing. But, she left the egg in the the forest because she didn’t someone challenging her rule, so she went to the hollow earth. The egg hatched and Zilla struggled to survive. The full version is here. You can check it out if you want.

MilqueChocolate

I really love that idea. I understand that want for Godzilla to be horror, and I’ve tried designing my godzilla around that somewhat, (that’s why it smiles.) I actually love the cosmic Horror Idea for ghidorah and I don’t think the concept is ruined but was executed poorly, (with the fight against Goji at least)

Die-hard Spino Fan

I think you should write out a sort of explanation for him to see. It’s really good, though.

That’s a cool trilogy @MilqueChocolate! How did you like mine?

I finally have my concept ready haha. Been a while but here goes:

It'll will be a trilogy and will revolve around the extermination of Godzilla himself. I dont want to use any other monsters here as I have a different ideal approach.

My ideal composer for this would be: Hiroyuki Sawano. His ability to enhance any emotion in a scene with ease makes his talent eye-catching.

Film 1: In summary, this film will have Godzilla make his debut to humankind with the intent to destroy. I want to not only show how cruel and menacing his existence can be, but the horrifying effects of his iconic breath. Imagine if Godzilla's breath attack on a human being not only vaporizes them, but leaves an atomic shadow of them? The film's primary focus is to show the terror of something like Big G attacking mankind and the aftermath of his rampage, while also solidifying humanity as the underdog of this trilogy. Godzilla will evolve his abilities slowly, allowing him to get to his peak by the third film.

Film 2: This film will focus on preparing humanity's comeback, with the drive to fight back against this threat. Godzilla is claiming the world as his territory, and humanity is losing its edge. They realize that if Godzilla is evolving, they also would need to push forward and advance their tech and weaponry. They begin to develop a counter-offensive, a fighter of their own. Something to withstand Godzilla's abilities but realistically still be prone to damage by them (the film wouldnt be fun if it could just tank what Godzilla throws at him).

Film 3: This film is the endgame. The final offensive against Godzilla. The mech has been prepared, but Godzilla has already turned a good amount of larger civilizations into a azure-scorched wasteland. This film represents humanity's comeback, with humankind banding together to stop a common enemy as a species. Since this would be all-out war, this film would have countless casualties. The tone still being consistent throughout as a horror with realistic, yet bombastic action. The mech's purpose is to damage Godzilla enough so we can deal the final blow. Hoping the mech kills Godzilla by itself is wishful thinking and would be cliche plot-wise.

This is just a summary but I'd love to go in-depth with this in a legitimate topic. The whole point of this trilogy is to introduce the audience a horror trilogy with an iconic monster while also holding out hope that humanity will survive and triumph against him. Godzilla started off as a horror film, and I believe that using that tone not only does him justice but shows audiences what he was before he was a hero. He was a towering horror, and he still retains his badassery that way.

(I did have a secondary concept that revolved around a "Destroy all Monsters" with Ghidorah being the cosmic threat against the world. I feel he isnt properly conveyed to be such and I think having him be the unholy destroyer could be a pretty dope thing to see on-screen.

Wait I’m list mine,

-Godzilla Comes Ashore

-Godzilla’s Entrace in Terror Of Mechagodzilla

-Godzilla Underwater Beginning scene in GMK

-Godzilla Atomic Breath G 14

-Godzilla Comes Ashore in 4th form (Shin)

-Atomic Breath Shin

-Godzilla Earth Wakes Up, (whether or not you like the anime, this scene is awesome)

-Godzilla Terristrius First scene, Singular Point

I feel these scenes do godzilla the most justice.
