1998 and Aquatilis are both meant to be a form of Godzilla. Even with the argument that it was just the prelude to Godzilla, the designs for Aquatilis and Amphibia look nothing like Godzilla and instead look like knock-off versions of more recognizable kaiju (I could also say that about the other kaiju in Singular Point as well).

With that logic you could argue that 1998 was the prelude to the animated series version, which acted more like the traditional Godzilla, was stronger and had atomic breath. In fact, according to Tristar and the early script for the unmade sequel, 1998 was supposed to be the first in a trilogy, in which their Godzilla was going to continue to mutate/evolve and become more like the classic Godzilla, so with that logic, Godzilla 1998's design is no different than Singular Point's early forms (hell, Terrestris actually has some similarities to 1998's design, with its more theropod-like stance and the fins on its back curving forward).

They're both radically different interpretations of Godzilla, except that the 1998 design gets bashed for being different, while the early forms in Singular Point gets praised for being different. The only major difference is that one is made by an American studio and the other is made by a Japanese studio. It honestly makes me question:

If 1998's plot was similar to Singular Point would it still be hated for being different?

And if 1998 had been made by Toho (no other changes) would it be praised for being different and ambitious?

I never got that impression he was confused, but the Singular Point Official Guide released earlier this month confirms that Ashihara, and I quote, "triggered the protocol that Yun wrote."

"I find it funny that fans gave 1998 crap for not looking like the classic Godzilla, yet this is somehow fine."

Given 1998 was the final design and Aquatilis was merely a prelude to something more traditional than 1998, I don't think the same logic applies.

I like the 98' design, And gmk goji was also supposed to have that stance. Aybe it gets away with not looking much like goji because its a different form.

I dont like titano much but aquatilis is my favorite form besides ultima. Ive sculpted it twice because of this.

The coloration of Aquatilis wasn't the only similarity that it had with Titanosaurus. The head shape, eyes, fins on head and tail, and antennae are identical to Titanosaurus.

Aquatilis pretty much looked like a cross between Titanosaurus and a Mosasaur. It has an interesting design but as a form of Godzilla it doesn't work. Aside from the fins on it's back, it looks nothing like Godzilla! I find it funny that fans gave 1998 crap for not looking like the classic Godzilla, yet this is somehow fine.

I dont think Ashihara is Yun because when Pero 2 (I refuse to say pelops 2) goes into the past with the project he sees into the past shiva with ashihara, Ashihara seems confused what the song is, but JJ tells Yun what it is at the end.

I could say the afterthought about godzilla 2014, but I dont because both use the cut away very well. I enjoyed the waiting and godzilla is probably talked about more in SP than 2014. The two first forms of shin godzilla dont feel very godzilla like to me. Most of the physics conversations as of ep. 5 and onward talk about godzilla and the catastrophe I beleive.

Godzilla was a creature from a higher demension, and has most of the abilities of the other kaiju such as rewriting his dna and seeing into the future. The evolution didn't need to be natural. Its a blend of incomplete and complete metamorphasis making the organism seem more complex.

Aquatilis barely reminds me of Titanosaurus, Coloration isnt enough to justify that for me.

I do agree that the evolution didnt work as well as in shin, and I believe it was included for two reasons. One Toho might have mandated it because it gives opportunity for Bandai to make more toys. And Two, it was to get around Toho saying that Godzilla should appear as soon as possible.

HinikunaGoji,
Agreed. Part of the rewatch factor is understanding it better with each viewing. The series is simply chalk full of ideas, nuance, references, cultural and religious ideas steaming from Japanese to Buddhism--It doesn't cease to be fascinating even upon rewatch.

My latest rewatch has revealed an implication I didn't catch before. The evolved Jet Jaguar claims he came into being via the code Yun wrote which was triggered by Ashihara--Implying Ashihara may be an older Yun.

Season 2 can come soon enough.

Ultima had a cool design and there were some cool moments and concepts, but a lot of these moments and ideas were pretty much just copied from Shin Godzilla, and to be honest, I felt that they worked better in Shin than they did in Singular Point.

I think Godzilla's metamorphosis worked better in Shin because the forms felt like a realistic transformation, starting as an aquatic creature that grows limbs, looses its gills and begins to adapt to a terrestrial lifestyle, growing and changing its form to defend itself from threats. It reminded me of the metamorphosis of a tadpole becoming a frog. Singular Point's metamorphosis didn't make much sense, it starts out as a more aquatic Titanosaurus, randomly becomes Varan, cocoons itself and becomes a weird Godzilla/Python/Dinosaur thing with living blood tentacles, and then just randomly becomes Godzilla. Nothing about that transformation felt organic.

I liked that Godzilla Ultima felt apocalyptic, the problem was that his inclusion kind of felt like an afterthought. The plot seemed more focused on its physics lectures and other concepts, to the point where Godzilla felt like he was pushed to the background and at times it felt like the series forgot about him.

I disagree. I love shin, but Ultima completely took me by surprise. I wasn't very stoked about the idea of another evolving godzilla and loved the execution and showa monster esque designs. Im not mad about seeing these kaiju on their own because in and of themselves they are very bland, (and varan is one of my favorite kaiju ever.) The show looked so showa-ey and I love it. Godzilla himself seems more intelligent, then the more animalistic godzillas we've been getting, (Shin, MOnsterverse, HEsei, Kyriugoji). THis godzilla also felt very apocalyptic and godlike to me, which is what ive always really wanted with a godzilla.

I like the strangeness of the Prometheus Engineers. Would have loved to see millions of these types in AC.

The only thing humans in the 22nd century might want from the Elder / Engineers might be their star maps. This would save a great deal of exploration time and money. Humans seem to have everything they need. The desire for the 'perfect weapon' is really just movie plot nonsense.

Geez, where do I start...? The airport entrance in 2014 was intense, but If I had to pick a defining scene, it would be when he decimates Ghidorah in KOTM and then when the other monsters arrive and actually BOW TO HIM. What other Godzilla has had other kaiju bow and show their allegiance to him.

Ultima, no question. Singular Point was most loyal to the OGs in my opinion. Shin is just the most disgusting thing I have ever seen and while I accepted the Earth Godzilla design, that particular trilogy kinda sucked. Like seriously, WHY is mechagodzilla a city and WHY, just WHY is Ghidorah so underwhelming. He's supposed to be the titan usurper, the One Who is Many, the Devil With Three Heads! All we got was three really long necks and the only kaiju battle that bored me.

Now, going to Godzilla Ultima, I was admittedly a little wary of the whole evolution thing after Shin, but once I saw Ultima, my doubts were gone. I just sat there in awe as he arose, walking through the city to the booming melody of his original theme, which now has VOCALS (I actually got goosebumps). His thighs were a bit thicc, but I'll let it slide. out of the three Reiwa versions, Ultima is by far the most loyal to the eras before, and that's what really helped me make my choice.

I agree. the only thing I want to argue is Kong ruling Hollow Earth. As far as we know, he's the only Alpha Titan down there, so I see no issue in him being king down there, as long as Godzilla stays King of the Monsters. Like seriously, how did ANYONE think Kong could win after seeing Godzilla go beast mode on him in Hong Kong. I see Godzilla drill a hole into Hollow Earth and I already knew he was going to come out on top.

Seeing him an action as well as watching many of the other original kaiju in action really solidified my interest. LONG LIVE THE KING!

When looking at some of the THINGS that Ridley Scott has said about the Engineers and Especially after AC.  He has said they are NOT a Race but a Civilization, and before he has said about JUST as there are Many Versions/Races of Man then WHY cant the same be said for the Engineers.

So he was looking at the Species having some Diversity, even Hinting those on Planet 4 are the Originals and they Live for about 200 Years.

So when we look at our Prometheus Engineers then they do look more like they were a Perfect Creation as far as ART, as in you have Made a Perfect Human Form from MARBLE and then Brought it to LIFE.

The HALL OF HEADS does seem to show some Diversity within the Engineers, there appears to be some subtitle Differences like you see in Star Trek with some of the HUMANOID Races... for Example.... Humans, Romulans, Vulcans and Bajorans.  These all have a Very Human like Appearance compared to say Klingons, Ferengi and Cardassians

So there could be some Diversity where the Genetic Linage of the Engineers traces back to some Diversity of their Ancestors, they likely have Seeded the DNA of their Ancestors in different ways to Create Humanoids on Worlds who may have some Variety.

I will add that the Engineers that David had Experimented on and Drawn did look more like those from Prometheus than what we saw on Planet 4 (The Brows and Noses).

I think its OPEN to explore Ancestral Race above those Engineers, and besides i think the PLOT leaves it OPEN to take us to Worlds with Diverse Engineers Aesthetically because if we look back on Earth then we came from the Homo Species of which the Lineage of Homo Erectus is where we had Evolved from as well as Neanderthal Man also having the same Linage.

But you can see there are Differences between a Homo Sapien (Human) and a Neanderthal.  So if we can Imagine that there was a Number of other Humanoids that was in that Linage who along with Neanderthals had survived as of TODAY then you would have some Genetic Diversity and so WHY cant the same be said about the Engineers Genetic Linage?

But i think that MOST Fans want to see the RETURN of the Prometheus Style Engineers... the Living Statues.... aka Synthetic Looking.

"you'd think they'd be targeting Engineer / Elder technology by the 24th century"

Yeah this is a PROBLEM when they went for the PLOT of Prometheus a Problem that could be SOLVED.... Provided.

1) The Engineers World that David and Dr Shaw went to was MUCH FURTHER AWAY than Planet 4, but then its HOW do other Humans from Earth reach such a World before the events of ALIEN.

2) Before we get to ALIEN then LV-223 is DESTROYED leaving the ONLY remnants of the Technology/Bio-Weapon on the Derelict on LV-426

Considering Alien Covenant then by the Year 2120 it would make sense that there is NOTHING to be had regarding the Engineers Tech and Xenomorph/Black Goo on LV-223, Planet 4 and Origae-6 by the TIME we get to ALIEN.

The Idea i had for where David and Dr Shaw would go was VERY FAR AWAY and they would NOT arrive until after 2150-2200, and so the AFTERMATH where some Engineers would then be on a Conquest to Destroy us would not take place until after 2300-2400, its left OPEN to bring the Engineers back say before Alien R or after Alien R.

You still have the Problem of LV-223 though.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumSo about that inequality... (Noah Hawley on the Alien Hulu series)

Yeah i am Concerned with the TIME-LINE and the Setting on Earth in such a Time-Line. To have a Encounter and Outbreak on Earth set before say 2200 makes NO SENSE and will ONLY go and Conflict the WHOLE FRANCHISE.

They did say that we would get a SLOW BUILD UP so we WONT be thrown into Xenomorph Armageddon right away but EVENTUALLY they make a Appearance and so the Xenomorph Encounters may take place AWAY from Earth.  And so MAYBE there would NOT be any Xenomorphs on Earth?  but it would still CONFLICT the Franchise well ESPECIALLY the Prequels if its SET before the events of Prometheus (2093)

The NOT TOO DISTANT is a Concern.... i think this means at VERY LEAST we are going to see a TV Show thats SET before ALIEN.  We currently are about 100 Years away from ALIEN (2022) and i would NOT say thats in the NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE ;)

The ALIEN Time-Line is not the same as our Actual One, we had the TED TALK 2023 with Prometheus and well we are a LONG WAY from having David the Robot in 2021, so Technology in the ALIEN Franchise is ahead of what it is in REAL LIFE.

It seems that Corporate Conquest for Space Resources plays a Part and so we would be in a TIME where Space Travel is NOT as much in its Infancy as NOW and so i would ASSUME we have Space Stations that are inhabited by Hundreds of People and Bases on the Moon/Mars.

A.I is listed as a Future Threat and so we have to assume they have Sentient Computers or Synthetics and so again with the Space Exploration i cant see this being set in 10, 20 Years.

I would say that being set after ALIEN so say 150 Years or 100 is NOT what i would call Distant Future....

So i think 50 Years would maybe be Classed as NOT to Distant... but lets say we are looking at the Year 2050-2075 in the ALIEN Franchise i think this would CONFLICT the Franchise.....

But MAYBE what we have is Disney wanting to go for a ALTERNATIVE HISTORY and THUS.... make the Prequels become Obsolete.

As for RIPLEY they think a TV Show should be about her before ALIEN but then HOW would you have a Younger Ripley who then encounters the Xenomorph?

NO THANKS she is DEAD!  Move On!

Unless they want to Continue after Alien Resurrection..... but yeah i have Concerns with the TV Series as Continuity with the Franchise.

My only real issue with the show thus far is it's apparently going to be on Earth before the events of any movie. No. I'm not for an Earth set Alien at any point in the timeline. But the woke complaints? Blown way out of proportion. I know a ton of  movies these days are indeed very preachy, not going to name any examples. What I believe the show is going to attempt is show the company's point of view and how they treat those in their pursuit of this species. Something that Marvel's awful comics are failing miserably at.
