They say "better late than never", but I really missed the boat on this one. Two weeks ago Ultraman Ginga S: The Movie - Showdown! The 10 Ultra Warriors! was released in Japanese theaters. To help promote the movie Tsuburaya released the first four minutes online.
Although this is of no interest to Japanese audiences, it's likely the most comprehensive look at the movie for overseas fans. Tsuburaya has made no announcments to try and distribute the film to North America, but that hasn't stopped fans in the past. In the mean time we get a look at the prologue with Ultraman Cosmos fighting the new villain Etelgar:
Despite the fact I'm all up in this movie for Ultraman Nexus, (likely a cameo) I like the fact it begins with Cosmos and Ultraman Zero. The last movie of the Ultraman Zero trilogy (Ultraman Saga) primarily centered around these two Ultras, so it's a nice segue into Ultraman Ginga's story.
It's also interesting to note that this prologue confirms Zero's Ultimate Zero form, aqcuired from Ultraman Noa (Nexus's final, almost god-like form) does not rely on the current state of Nexus/Noa's power. The form is ultimately Zero's. (See what I did there?)
The footage is par for Tsuburaya: Fun special effects with great miniatures, even when it's just trees and brush, mixed with green screen and CG that fits the style and tone. The low angle camera work has always been something Tsuburaya's crew excels at and the framing is no less dynamic. It's interesting to note that the movie is shot with a 4K camera. It's hard to tell on a lower resolution screen how this makes the visuals look, but when the world is saturated with 4K panels Ultraman Ginga S: The Movie will be ready.
