Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has officially hit theaters and as many would expect, we have a few questions. One of the many questions we were left with after leaving The Rise of Skywalker was who the voices were of the Jedi who spoke to Rey during a climactic moment near the film's end. Obviously, this article contains spoilers, so if you have not yet seen Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, you might wish to revisit this piece once you have.
Now, onto the answers!
During the final moments where Rey is faced with defeating the Phantom Emperor, she is inspired by a plethora of voices, belonging to a number of famous and fallen Jedi from throughout the Star Wars saga.
The first voice is none other than Ewan McGregor’s Oni-Wan Kenobi, where he says "These are your final steps, Rey. Rise and take them." Following this, a grouping of voices speak out and chant "Rey". These voices included Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker, Ashley Eckstein’s Ahsoka Tano, and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Kanan Jarrus. Frank Oz’s Yoda is also heard telling Rey "Alone, never have you been." Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn is then heard saying "Every Jedi who ever lived, lives in you."
Following on, we hear the voice of Anakin Skywalker again, saying "The Force surrounds you Rey." and then a number of voices from The Clone Wars is heard; Jennifer Hale’s Aayla Secura tells her "Let it guide you, as it guided us," and then Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu is heard saying "Feel the Force flowing through you, Rey."
Near the end we even hear an edited piecing of Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan who says "Rey" before none other than Mark Hammill's Luke Skywalker says "Rey, the Force will be with you. Always".
The compiling of voices paid homage not only to the original trilogy and prequel trilogy but also the The Clone Wars and animated off-shoots, culminating the iconic saga by referencing all Star Wars. It was a very fitting and nostalgic callback to such a profound legacy.
