When it was announced that Rian Johnson would be writing and directing a completely new Star Wars movie trilogy, separate to the the already established Slywalker saga, many began to speculate that this new trilogy might be based on the popular Star Wars game Knights of the Old Republic. Unfortunately, Johnson dispelled these assumptions when he spoke to Mashable earlier this month:
Oh, love Knights of the Old Republic. I played that game when it first came out and it was like, god, I loved it, that’s a fantastic game. And I understand it, the instinct to automatically go to something that you know and love, that you’ve already seen. To me, what’s really fun is the notion of what new stuff are we gonna see, what new stories can we tell?
It is unfortunate to learn we likely won't ever see a film adaptation of Knights of the Old Republic, but at the same time it is exciting to ponder what new territory might be explored in the new trilogy.
