As Pacific Rim 2 is still in the midst of filming, we only recently learned what we believed to be the official title of the film. However, a Press Release today from Legendary Pictures, seems to confirm that the title of 'Pacific Rim: Maelstrom' was only a working title or not the final title.
The press release reveals that the title of the film is now 'Pacific Rim: Uprising'. While this title is still enigmatic, it may hint at a resurgence of Kaiju that could rival the invasion from the first film. It is also intriguing that the title should change after production, especially since the Director had taken to twitter to seemingly confirm 'Maelstrom' as the title.
As the press release did not focus on the titles, but only mentioned them in passing, it is possible that Legendary will 'officially' announce 'Uprising' as the new title for the upcoming film. Stay tuned to Scified as we receive more updates!
Pacific Rim: Uprising will take place some time after the events of the first film, with Star Wars' John Boyega starring as Stacker Pentecost's son. Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi's return are yet to be announced. The plot remains under wraps, although it is known that the sequel will explore more of the Kaiju's origins and introduce us to new Jaegers and technology.
