News regarding the sequel to Pacific Rim has rapidly turned from relatively dry, to multiple castings appearing in a matter of weeks. According to Variety, Levi Meaden is joining the cast of Pacific Rim 2 in the role of 'Llya'.
Variety described Meaden's role as 'an irreverent and offbeat cadet'. It is possible that Meaden's role could be that of a Jaeger pilot-in-training that acts more like the 'joker' of the group. The first details about his character do sound like the movie may be at least partially focused on introducing new Jaeger cadets in-training into the plot structure.
Meaden is no stranger to the apocalypse. Levi Meaden will star in SyFy's original TV series 'Aftermath', which follows the struggle of a family to survive following the collapse of society.
As this is the second major casting report in a week for the project, undoubtedly many more bits of casting news will be revealed soon. Stay tuned to SciFied for updates. It is extremely intriguing that Meaden is one of the few characters who have had a character description released as well.
Pacific Rim 2 will take place after the events of the first film, with Star Wars' John Boyega starring as Stacker Pentecost's son. Cailee Spaeny will also star as a lead in an undisclosed role. Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi's return are yet to be announced. Plot-wise, it was mentioned early on that the sequel would explore more of the Kaiju's origins and of course, introduce us to new Jaegers and technology.
