Filming is currently underway at Pinewood Studios in London, England for director Rian Johnsons Star Wars: Episode VIII which will see most of the cast from last Christmas' The Force Awakens return as we hopefully start to unravel the mysteries behind the sequel trilogies protagonist Rey and its antagonist Supreme Leader Snoke. Previously we had covered the news that award winning Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro was being eyed for a possible villainous role in the forthcoming sequel, now according to Variety the Traffic and Guardians of the Galaxy stars involvement has been confirmed, along with that of another addition to the cast in the form of Jurassic Park royalty Laura Dern.
There are no details as to Derns' role, though we speculate it will likely be a small to moderate role, most likely of a diplomatic nature, as we suspect General Leia will now be forming a new governmental body after the First Order destroyed the entire Senate with their Starkiller weapon in The Force Awakens. Another possibility could be that Dern may be portraying the daughter of Duchess Satine Kryze. The Mandolorian diplomat was a romantic figure in Obi Wan Kenobi's life and her daughter could be revealed to be Reys mother, if one of the many speculations about Reys heritage is true; that she is the grand-daughter of Master Kenobi.
