Maybe it's just the melodrama that gravitated around the still untitled Han Solo movie lately, but it feels as though the marketing push for Star Wars, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi isn't as forceful as it was for the previous two movies, Rogue One and The Force Awakens. While it's understandable that Lucasfilm wouldn't want to oversaturate and over-expose their premier property with plans to release a new installment every year, it really does feel as though they are holding back with The Last Jedi. Variety showcased the first exclusive images from The Force Awakens back in May 2015, yet here we are in August of 2017reporting the first exclusive images from The Last Jedi that were recently revealed by Entertainment Weekly.
Is Lucasfilm quietly confident that director Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi will be more critically successful than its predecessor, or are they already feeling the strain following the firing of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and recent doubts being cast as to whether Colin Trevorrow will remain onboard as the director?
The images have been released ahead of EW's article that will be released tomorrow. Among the 11 images released we get to See Rey and Luke Skywalker on Anch To, our first shot of Finn in action, images of Kylo Ren and Poe Dameron, as well as our first true look at 'the Casino planet' Canto Bight and Kylo's new TIE Silencer. We also get two behind-the-scenes images; one with director Johnson with Producer Ram Bergman and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and another image of Johnson directing the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa.
