It was developed by Computer Artworks and released for PS2, XBOX and PC in 2002. A sequel, The Thing 2, was in development in 2003 by the same team, but it was later cancelled when the company closed down.
at the end of the thing game the protagonist Blake defeats the thing with help of an unknown helicopter pilot, in the final cutscene they escape in the helicopter, and in one quote blake asks the pilot what is his name, and he replies saying "i'm R.J. Macready"
R.J. Macready was the protagonist of The thing 1982 movie, at the end of the movie R.J. MacReady and Childs are the 2 only survivors after blowing up the U.S installations and killing everyone because of the infection spread, how ever the movie ends and is unknown who is infected whether MacReady or Childs.
In the first level of the game you can find Childs's dead body in a destroyed house, it seems he died due to low temperatures, maybe MacReady at the end of the game could be infected and that would connect the story with The thing 2 game.
Here is some work in progress of the game, art guides and cutscenes ENJOY ^_^

Member2KDec-28-2013 4:25 PMNice! I've never seen footage from The Thing or the abandoned Thing 2 video games before.
Was Mac assimilated or still human? I've always wanted to know.
In an alternate ending, both he and Childs made it out of the base.

MemberNoobDec-28-2013 8:18 PMwell Lone, i guess MAC was assimilated, because in the game we don't get to know anything about him until we meet him at the end, he was sort of "Lost". and when Blake and his team go to investigate the debris the found "no survivors"

MemberNoobJun-17-2017 12:13 AMIt appears that they worked for a year on The Thing 2 and there ought to be at least a playable demo.. perhaps later on somebody will have the capacity to save it and offer with the group.
